Should you replace Adobe? A practical switching checklist
Treat a creative-software change as a workflow migration. Test the files, features and handoffs you actually use before cancelling an existing plan.
1. Inventory required work
List the exact applications, file formats, plugins, fonts, color workflows, automation and client handoffs you depend on. Separate required capabilities from occasional conveniences.
2. Test representative files
Open, edit and export real examples in each candidate alternative. Check fidelity, linked assets, collaboration, accessibility and how easily another person can continue the work.
3. Count the full cost
Compare old recurring cash with retained subscriptions and incremental replacement costs. Record one-time migration work separately. Do not treat owner time as recurring cash savings.
4. Run a reversible trial
Keep the original workflow available while you complete a representative project. Document failures and recovery steps before changing a renewal or deleting source files.
Use the Software Stack Audit to model costs, and read the review methodology before relying on a recommendation.
